THE REALITY OF REAL DISCIPLESHIP (Part 1)
Matt. 10:24-33; Selected Scriptures
Saiko Woods, Pastor-Teacher
1. Real disciples recognize their position in relation to the one who disciples them (v. 24; Col. 1:18).
2. Real disciples desire to be like the one who disciples them in everything (v. 25a; Lk. 6:40; 1 Cor. 11:1; Phil. 3:17; 2 Thes. 3:7; 1 Tim. 4:12; 1 Pet. 2:21).
3. Real disciples become more like Christ when they obey His Word (v. 25; Jn. 8:29, 31; 15:14).
4. Real disciples understand that their reputation will be attacked just like Christ’s was (v.25b; Mk. 3:22; Jn. 8:48; 15:20).
5. Real disciples aren’t fearful of the opinions of others (v. 26; Prov. 29:25; Gal. 4:16).
6. Real disciples refuse to seek personal revenge against those who mistreat/abuse them, but by faith, trust that God will right all wrongdoing in the end (v. 26; Eccl. 11:9; Rom. 12:19; 1 Cor. 4:5; 1 Thes. 4:6; 2 Thes. 1:6).
7. Real disciples who spend time alone with God, passionately proclaim His truth to others (v. 27; Jer. 20:9; 1 Cor. 9:16).
8. Real disciples understand that persecutors have limited power compared to God’s unlimited power (v. 28; Psa. 56:11; 2 Tim. 4:6-8; 2 Pet. 1:13-14).
9. Real disciples realize they are precious to God, are under His protective care, and are personally & intimately acquainted with them (vv. 29-31; Psa. 116:15; 139:13-18; Rom. 8:38-39).
10. Real disciples who boldly confess Christ as Lord will evidence their profession by consistent patterns of obedience & will not deny Him as evidenced through consistent patterns of disobedient living (vv. 32-33; Rom. 2:7-8; 2 Tim. 2:12; Tit. 1:16; Matt. 7:23).
Great work Saiko! Looking forward to more from you!!

ReplyDeleteWhile real disciples are not to take revenge, they are biblically mandated to warn the church (local & universal) when there is unrepentant sin, after a Matthew 18 approach.
I Timothy 5:20 ""Those (pastors) who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning"
